The Iran-US negotiations to end the Israeli-American war on Iran have squeezed Israel as never before, including apparent US demands that it stop killing and occupying Arab lands in Lebanon and Gaza. The Hamas-US-Board of Peace agreement requires Israel to stop its attacks and eventually withdraw from Gaza, in return for Hamas disarmament and other steps they both agreed on last year. Netanyahu wants to avert at all costs having to comply with these terms, after he was forced to stop attacking Iran and, on paper, Lebanon also.
Israel wants the mediators - USA, Turkiye, Egypt and Qatar - to play no role in monitoring the agreement’s implementation, so that it can continue its criminal assaults aimed to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians from their land. Israel also wants Hamas to disarm fully and to verify that itself, before Israel starts to withdraw from sections of Gaza, if any. It does not want to enter into a situation in which Palestinians and Israelis simultaneously implement their parts of the agreement, but prefers to dictate the terms and maintain its dominant position. Its ongoing mass killings in Gaza seek to provoke Hamas to respond and blow up the deal, which Hamas will not do.
The reason for this is that implementing this agreement would be a historic step towards ending zionist-Israeli assaults on Palestinian land and people that started over a century ago, with international parties verifying this. So Israel will do anything it can to prevent implementation, while the Palestinians, perhaps the US, and the rest of the world want to make sure the agreement is fully implemented.
If the US is forced to end its attacks in Lebanon and Gaza, which is possible but not certain, this could launch the rebuilding of Gaza as a first step towards a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace and coexistence agreement. Israel wants to avoid this process, in favor of maintinaing its total control over what happens in Palestine and the region. We may be entering a truely historic era in which zionism is contained and defined in a state of Israel whose borders are fixed, alongside the birth of a Palestinian state. Gaza and Lebanon now are the litmus tests of this.
